Isaiah 40: 3 – 5: A voice cries out: “in the wilderness prepare the way of the
Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall
be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground
shall become level, and the rough places a plain. Then the glory of the Lord
shall be revealed, and all people shall see it together,
for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
I rejoice, for things are always happening at Kenmore UMC in preparing a way of the Lord.
Not just during Advent and Christmas, but rather all year long. As the decorations come out for the sanctuary,
the wreath sale is underway, the Christmas alternative is posted, the choir practices for the holy eve, I delight
in the many ways we prepare a way for the Lord in the hearts of all people.
Yet preparation for receiving God’s love in Jesus and disciple-making is the ongoing work at the church. Just
look at Kenmore UMC’s efforts through the Pre-school, Youth programs and Confirmation class, the new faith
community for young families, singles, and couples called SPARK, the Community Food Pantry, the Dementia
Respite Care program, the New Beginnings class, United Women in Faith, the Piecemakers & Craftsmen, the
Strategic Planning Team, plans to renovate the Library into a Café, and our new Neighborhood Hub Emergency
Response initiative.
All these ministries, and more, evidence our continual preparation and inspiration for current and future generations
to make a way through the wilderness and a straight in the desert for a new highway in their lives for God.
So I rejoice in your on-going response to God’s grace, and invite you to join with me this season of Advent.
Give thanks and count your blessings for the amazing ways the Lord is working in and through us at Kenmore UMC,
all to the glory of God as we prepare to once again celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus the Christ.
With Advent Thanksgiving & Joy,
Pastor Becky
